AIC, SAIC staff ratify union contract
“AIC and SAIC staff made history when they formed the first major museum union in Chicago. Now they’ve secured a landmark union contract that raises pay, creates new career opportunities, keeps health care affordable and protects workers’ rights on the job,” AFSCME Council 31 Executive Director Roberta Lynch said.

SAIC adjunct professors, lecturers vote to join AICWU/AFSCME
More than 600 non-tenure-track faculty of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) have voted overwhelmingly to form their union. The adjunct professors and lecturers voted 377 Yes to 33 No (92%) to join Art Institute of Chicago Workers United (AICWU), the AFSCME-affiliated local union formed last year by staff of the school and museum.

In a public letter to their colleagues, non-tenure-track faculty—adjuncts and lecturers—of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) announced they are forming a union. The public letter is signed by nearly 200 non-tenure-track faculty. Read it here.
